A simple sample is sequenced in an accredited lab and returned as a clear, counsellor-reviewed ancestry report.
How the ancestry estimate is made
GeneRoots is admixture-based: rather than assigning you to a single origin, it estimates what proportion of your genome matches each reference population, which is how ancestry actually distributes in real families.
- Resolution: over 654,000 genotyped markers from the Global Screening Array, extended to more than 17 million variants by imputation.
- Array pipeline: raw IDAT image files are clustered, low-quality samples filtered, re-clustered, and variants filtered to an analysis-ready set before reporting.
What the report gives you
The report works from the whole world inwards, so you can stop at the level that interests you.
- A worldwide estimate first: your ancestry split across continents, shown on a map shaded by how much of your genome traces to each.
- Then the detail: each continental share broken down through region to individual ancestral populations, with the modern countries each one spans, reported to two decimal places.
- Then the context: a geographies annexure describing each region that appears in your particular result, so the population names mean something.
